Panasonic Announced 4 Pro-Grade Camcorders

Industry expert Panasonic is launching four new professional Camcorders capable of recording 4K 60p 10-bit.

Panasonic has been an industry leader in the consumer and professional camcorder market for decades.

The Japanese tech brand’s first camcorder was released in 1985. The Panasonic NV-M1 Camcorder enabled budding videographers to record to a standard VHS cassette, so those too young to remember VHS cassettes can Google it.

The days of bulky, limited-performance camcorders from the 80s are well and truly behind us.

Panasonic’s pro-grade camcorders are ideal for high-end video production, live streaming, and broadcasting applications.

Panasonic has announced four pro-grade camcorder models, including the HC-X2100, HC-X1600, HC-X1200, and the flagship AG-CX20.

Each of the four models boasts a suite of high-end videography features, functions, and performance to suit a range of visual creatives.

While there are four unique camcorder models, they share a standard set of specifications, including the fixed 25mm wide-angle lens with the 24x 8K optical zoom.

Panasonic’s new camcorder range boasts advanced image stabilization, fast and silent autofocus, current-gen connectivity, and effortless streaming.

The fixed 25mm lens delivers a 600mm telephoto range, plus Panasonic’s iZoom archives a 32x zoom in 4K and 48x in FHD. The lens also features a pair of manual control rings for focus and zoom.

As for the recording capabilities, the range of Panasonic Camcorders offers UHD 4K and FHD recording resolution in 4:2:2 10-bit internal recording. The systems also deliver HEVC recording at 4k 60p at 200Mbps.

The 5-axis hybrid image stabilization, face detection AE and AF, and color recognition subject tracking support effortless and precise image capture.

Much like the 80s and 90s camcorders, the new Panasonic pro range boasts a single-handed support system and a flip-out 3.5” electrostatic OLDEd touch panel with a reasonable 2.76M dots of image resolution. The additional large-eyecup OLED viewfinder boasts a less-than-impressive 1.77M dot resolution.

In terms of audio, the HC-X2100, HC-X1600, HC-X1200, and AG-CX20 all support XLR audio inputs with +48V phantom power along with 24-bit Linear PCM, 16-bit AAC, or Dolby Audio recording protocols.

The final specs worth detailing include the built-in ND filters, dual SD card slots with unlimited relay recording, and the impressive 6-hour battery life.

As mentioned, not all of the new Panasonic camcorders were created equal. There are slight differences in the capabilities of each camcorder with a reduced price to match.

The star of the show, the Panasonic AG-CX20 also boasts P2 MXF recording, NDI HX2 and SRT protocol support, and ethernet and USB tethering for streaming and broadcasting.

Accurate pricing for each Panasonic pro-grade camcorder is yet to be confirmed.
