During the CP+ Photo Show in Yokohama, Japan, Sigma President Kazuto Yamaki announced the development of a Mark II version of the hugely popular Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN | Art II fast prime lens.
Sigma contributed actively to last week’s CP+ news with the release of the new Sigma BF full-frame camera, the 16-300mm f/3.5-6.7 DC OS | Contemporary APS-C, and the 300-600mm f/4 DG OS | Sports super-telephoto zoom lens, as well as the remodelling of an existing prime lens series.
Sigma’s President, Kazuto Yamaki, was on hand throughout the show to meet with news outlets and discuss the company’s latest and upcoming products.
Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN | Art II
The original Sigma 35mm f/1.2 Art lens is the brand’s first full-frame mirrorless lens, and it was released in 2019 for Leica L and Sony E mounts.
The news of an updated 35mm f/1.2 Art II lens is welcome. It demonstrates Sigma’s commitment to celebrating and refining its premium lens lineup.
Given the classic 35mm focal length, fast f/1.2 maximum aperture, and Sigma’s optical purity, it’s no surprise that the Japanese brand is upgrading the lens.
During his appearance on the CP+ Photo Show stage in Yokohama, Yamaki-san assured attendees that the updated Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN | Art II would be lighter and smaller and offer superior optical performance over the OG version.
While full specifications are yet to be revealed, it’s anticipated the new Art II lens will be lighter than the original version’s 38.45 oz (1090g) and smaller than the 3.46 x 5.36″ (87.8 x 136.2mm).
While the new Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN | Art II will likely be available for Leica L and Sony E full-frame systems, it’s unknown if it will be available for other mounts.
No release date or timeline was offered. Stay tuned for future updates on the Sigma 35mm f/1.2 DG DN | Art II release.
