My name is David Genik.
I’m a headshot photographer in NYC, and I mainly shoot actors, fashion, LinkedIn, corporate, and executive portraits.
I’ve been shooting since I was sixteen, but didn’t go pro till 2014. My first camera was a Nikon D90, followed by a Nikon D800 and then a D810.
I went into headshots because I was working in real estate, and other brokers needed headshots.
Nikon D810 – I like Nikon colors. It’s the only brand that does a four-by-five aspect ratio. This camera is solid, cheap, and easy to use.
I have never had issues with this camera, and 30MP is more than enough.
Nikon 70-200mm f/2.8G – This is the perfect lens for the studio, and it does everything I need it to do.
Paul C Buff Einstein e640 flash unit – I love the fact that the meter is built into the trigger, and it’s so easy to use. The cyber command is awesome!
I have used it since 2013 and have put over a million flashes on it, and it keeps going.
Thinktank Streetwalker – The perfect bag, fits everything, and lasts forever.
I rely on the MeFOTO RoadTrip Classic Series 1 Tripod with Monopod and Ball Head Kit for stability and versatility during my shoots, and use an Apple MacBook Pro for efficient post-production and image management.
Capture One – It’s perfect software where I do everything, then export a TIFF into Reblum, my new retouching tool.
Photoshop – When I need more than what Capture One can do.
Keep it simple. It’s all about the lighting and how we use it. You don’t need fancy gear and fancy setups.
