Canon Announces New Compact PowerShot V1

Canon has announced the PowerShot V1 as the long-anticipated new entry in the brand’s popular PowerShot compact digital camera range.

In 1996, Canon released the PowerShot 600, the brand’s first compact digital camera. It featured a half-megapixel sensor and a fixed 50mm lens. While it was considered compact, it was actually a big beast.

The Canon PowerShot V1 demonstrates how far digital camera tech has come since the mid-90s.

Canon’s PowerShot V1 is a reimaging of the features, performance, and value compact cameras bring to countless people.

The PowerShot V1 boasts a 22MP 1.4″ CMOS image sensor and a fixed 8.2 – 25.6mm (16 – 50mm full-frame equivalent) zoom lens. It’s an ideal focal range for travel and everyday photography.

Furthermore, the 16-50mm lens offers a wide and bright f/2.8-4.5 max aperture to deliver subject separation and background blur when working closer focal distances.

While the original Canon PowerShot 600 was a big and heavy beast, the new PowerShot V1 retains a relatively compact form, measuring 4.7 x 2.7 x 2.1″ (118.3 x 68 x 52.5mm) and weighing just 13.4 oz (379g).

One of the V1’s standout features is the ergonomic grip, which offers greater control and comfort while capturing images or longer-form video.

Despite its compact and handy size, the new Canon PowerShot V1 is capable of full-width 10-bit 4K 30p video recording or 4K 60p  ideo with a 1.4x crop.

Thanks to an active cooling system, the compact camera offers extended recording times of up to 2 hours in 4K 30p.

Furthermore, Canon has baked in several user-friendly video modes, including a versatile Product Demo Mode for content creation.

Another welcome feature is the dual mic and headphone ports to support accessories while recording.

For stills photography, the Canon PowerShot V1 includes lens-based optical stabilization and a built-in 3-stop ND filter.

The compact point-and-shoot captures up to 30fps in continuous shooting mode and delivers fast and reliable focus thanks to the Dual Pixel AF II system.

Canon’s latest PowerShot compact digital camera is an ideal choice for content creators, travelers, or anyone looking to upgrade from smartphone photography or videography.

To further support those genres, the V1 offers current-gen connectivity, including Bluetooth, Wi-Fi, and USB-C interfaces for use as a webcam.

Stay tuned for the release date and expected price of the new Canon PowerShot V1.
