I’m Kimberly, a very down-to-earth, people-loving wedding photographer who never intended on actually becoming one.
I got into photography to cope with the cancellation of my own wedding twelve years ago. The process of disappearing into the woods with my little Canon Rebel brought me so much solace and peace during a very rough time in my life.
Mind you, that camera had sat in a box since the holidays, and I finally said to myself, “Okay, let’s open you up, friend.”
It turns out I’ve developed (pun intended) into a decent portrait photographer, and weddings just fell into my lap.
Fast forward to today, I’ve shot over two hundred weddings, so go figure. I think what keeps me intrigued are the raw emotions and variety of shots that weddings require.
I love variety, a bit of ADHD here, and I also thrive under pressure, so it works for me. At forty-three years of age, I’m going strong and have zero intentions of stopping anytime soon.
My Canon EOS R6 Mark II and Godox Kit, comprising the Godox AD200 Pro II and Godox V860II-C, have served hundreds of couples here in Maryland and beyond.
I love my mirrorless R6 bodies because they pack a punch for their price, are reliable, capable of advanced subject tracking, feature touch-screen autofocus points, provide dual card slots, and more.
The Godox flash system has lived up to its reputation as well. I use the V860s as well as AD200 OCFs for receptions and for advanced lighting effects; they’ve held up for years. I am soon to add in the AD100s for some extra lightweight flash options.
As a prime lens lover, I rely solely on my main three primes;
Canon RF 85mm F2 – the Canon RF50mm F1.8 and the Canon RF35mm F1.8.
There’s almost nothing these three can’t handle, and I’ve found that additional lenses, such as my 24mm or former 70-200mm zoom, are extra weight and are hardly ever used.
I love to keep things simple and challenge myself to make these lenses work in a variety of scenarios.
Accessories I can’t do without are my Mag Mod grids – this magnetic system makes changing out softboxes and modifiers so fast and easy as a wedding photographer.
For post-production work, my Lacie Hard Drives have been amazing and reliable versus other brands.
Of course, I must include my fruit in the mix. I always pack clementines and bananas for quick, healthy energy, and trail mix for protein, but the fruit looks better in photographs!
Lightroom and Photoshop, along with Backblaze for online backup of my hard drive and computer, are essential components of the process.
