Leica’s LUX Grip is a clever piece of industrial design that pairs seamlessly with iPhone 12 and later smartphones. It connects to the camera via the built-in MagSafe magnetic connection.
While grips and even phone cases with grips can be purchased to support smartphone photography, the Leica LUX Grip takes it to the next level.
With gorgeous and minimal industrial design qualities, the LUX Grip features a deep cylindrical grip for left- or right-handed users. It’s made from machined aluminum.
The top of the grip features a two-stage mechanical shutter button and a pair of programmable function buttons. As found with all current-gen digital cameras, the grip also features a precision settings dial at the front for quick access.
The Leica LUX’s base houses a USB-C charging port and a versatile 1/4″-20 thread for tripod and gimbal mounting. The built-in lithium-ion battery charges in 2 hours and is suitable for 1,000 photos.
One of the selling features of the new grip is its Bluetooth connectivity and pairing with the Leica LUX smartphone app.
The Leica LUX smartphone app delivers a range of creative features to take greater control of your iPhone photography. It includes lens Leica Summilux and Noctilux simulations and control over exposure, ISO, and shutter speed.
When you purchase the Leica LUX Grip, you also receive a one-year subscription to the pro version of the LUX app.
The LUX Grip weighs just 4.59oz (130g), so it adds little weight to an iPhone. Leica also offers a premium leather case designed to hold and store the grip but doesn’t accommodate the accompanying iPhone.
