The Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ has much to offer and packs more than a few tricks to deliver an incredibly reliable and optically brilliant multi-purpose zoom.

Nikon’s striking new lens is a compact telephoto lens with a rotatable tripod collar, slick black finish, and gold metallic ring at the base of the lens mount.

The robust zoom lens measures 7 x 4.1″ (105 x 177.5mm) and weighs a considerable 2.5lb (1120g). Many videographers would choose to mount the Nikon Z camera and lens in a cage or on a gimbal.

Today Nikon Inc. announced the release of the NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ, a full-frame power zoom lens for the Nikon Z mount made especially for video professionals. Featuring a truly versatile focal range, a customizable power zoom function1, precise manual controls and agile handling, this is the first dedicated NIKKOR Z lens that is designed to empower small-footprint productions and solo videographers with a lightweight cinematic tool that fulfills numerous roles – Nikon USA.

Nikon’s latest power zoom features three control rings for manual focus, zoom, and a customizable option. It also boasts customizable function buttons, a manual-to-autofocus switch, and the old-school Wide to Telephoto Zoom rocker button.

The power zoom controls can be set to operate via custom buttons on the Nikon Z camera, and focus speeds and focus pull performance can be fine-tuned.

The zoom and focus rings are engineered to deliver smooth and exact focus rotation, precise manual focus control, and the ability to pair the lens with pro-grade follow-focus systems. The zoom speed can be set to one of seven different outcomes.

The 28-135mm wide-to-telephoto zoom range operates internally. It delivers a flexible 75º to 18° field of view while suppressing focus breathing with no evidence at the tele-end.

Nikon has pulled out all the stops to develop an optically brilliant lens that utilizes Hi-Res Zoom to extend the zoom up to 270mm full-frame equivalent when paired with a compatible Nikon Z camera.

Internally, the new Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ boasts 18 elements in 13 groups, a 9-bladed aperture, Nikon’s Meso Amorphous lens coating to retain high contrast, and a fluorine coating to repel dust and moisture from the front element.

While the lens lacks optical image stabilization, it offers a sharp 1.1 to 1.9′ (34 to 57cm) minimal focus distance and a 1:4 maximum magnification ratio.

The Nikon NIKKOR Z 28-135mm f/4 PZ is available for pre-order and is expected to retail for around US$2,600.00.
