In the lead-up to CP+ 2025, Sigma has revealed the new BF Camera, a full-frame L-mount digital mirrorless camera with the stylings of an Apple Macbook Pro!
Sigma has a long and impressive history in the optics and imaging business and has recently elevated its support for leading camera brands and mounts.
The announcement of the new BF Camera coincides with the renewal of no less than nine existing Sigma full-frame L and E mount lenses.
Sigma BF Camera
In a surprise announcement, Sigma has taken the covers of the brand new Sigma BF Camera.
Available in black or silver, the Sigma BF features a uni-body machined from a single block of alloy to provide incredible durability and a minimalist form.
Sigma’s BF Camera is one of the most paired-back full-frame digital mirrorless cameras ever developed. Apple’s design playbook has inspired its sleek finish, minimal control scheme, and unibody shell.
However, the Sigma BF is more than a showpiece thanks to the 24.6MP full-frame BSI CMOS image sensor, fast Hybrid-Phase and Contrast Detection focus performance, and the ability to record 6K 30p or Full HD 12op video.
In a radical move, Sigma has stripped back what it deems unnecessary features, including an SD card slot or hotshoe for accessories like flash or mics.
The Sigma BF packs 230GB of internal storage, which should be ample for everyday use. While the BF lacks an EVF, it does feature a 3.15″ 2.1m-dot rear touchscreen.
The use of buttons and control dials is kept to an absolute minimum, with only a shutter button gracing the top plate. Another Apple-esque feature is haptic button feedback.
Fortunately, the L-mount exclusive Sigma BF has many lenses available for photography and videography applications.
The Sigma BF Camera is set to ship in April 2025 and retail for around US$2,000.00
Sigma I Series Lens Renewal
While the Sigma BF Camera news stole the spotlight, Sigma also renewed nine of its Contemporary DG prime lenses.
Sigma has updated the following primes currently available for L-mount and Sony E-mount full-frame cameras:
- Sigma 17mm f/4 Contemporary
- Sigma 20mm f/2 Contemporary
- Sigma 24mm f/2 Contemporary
- Sigma 24mm f/3.5 Contemporary
- Sigma 35mm f/2 Contemporary
- Sigma 45mm f/2.8 Contemporary
- Sigma 50mm f/2 Contemporary
- Sigma 65mm f/2 Contemporary
- Sigma 90mm f/2.8 Contemporary
All of the above lenses are available in a standard black finish for Sony E and L-mount systems. However, Sigma has updated the range with a more premium black finish with finer laser-engraved settings.
Sigma has also introduced the nine primes in the same silver finish as the Silver L-mount BF Camera model.
It’s worth pointing out that the nine silver Sigma Contemporary prime are only available for L-mount. However, the new black finish is available for L-mount and Sony E-mount.
Sigma has stated that the updated L-mount lenses will be released from April 2025 and the E-mount versions from May 2025.
